Can carpet warm a room?

The answer is no. A carpet cannot warm a room. However, it can have a high thermal value. This means that it has an insulating factor that is warmer than concrete. A high R-value means that a carpet can keep a room warmer than concrete. Psychologically, a rug can evoke thoughts of coziness and feelings of warmth.

What is thermal value?

R-value is used on carpets and rugs when determining how they hold onto the warmth and resist coldness. It is usually displayed on a carpet or rug’s label or tag. R-value is not determined by how thick a carpet or rug is. It is usually just an indicator of how well they can insulate against the cold.

Padding

Now some experts claim that padding has an R-value of its own. Here is what you need to know about padding. When you put a carpet and padding together, the room's insulation is superior to the insulation just given by the carpet. As a result, the space will be protected by heat loss and cool air loss. It is known that sometimes an R-value of carpeting and padding is 2.0.

You have several available padding options. Urethane padding has the highest R-value, and it is considered the best padding for a bedroom with low foot traffic. However, it has a low density and is lightweight. So you don't want it for heavier traffic areas in your home. Fiber padding is more appropriate for high-traffic areas. It has a good R-value to it. Whatever you decide for padding, don’t forget to mention it to our staff as you shop for carpet. That way, you can get the best R-value for your home.
